What should I say? A 7.5 is pretty high on my scale and I would be very disappointed if I did not see this video in one of the top spots of this competition. Whats missing to an even higher grade is just on the scale of novelty, as I’ve seen quite a few (attempts) to explain special relativity - most of which done a significantly worse job. You payed attention to not overload any frames of the video with equation and went through every scenario more in depth on the intiutive site. Very well done
This was a really good video. It was well thought off and well animated. I could tell it was well organized. You ask questions at the right time to peak curiosity. You also skipped detail like the outdoor when it wasn’t needed. But you explained all the important parts. You even showed some excitement and emotion during the video which was really enhancing to the overall effect. Nice work keep up creating fun videos like this..
This is actually a very good video, however in the context of the contest it is not as good as others, since it is simply too long. The explanations are clear and the animation are superb. I wish it tackled one problem in scope, rather than being 30min. Very nice though, if it had been a 3b1b it probably would have been broken into many parts, but that is not what this contest is about.
The examples given were great at illustrating how relativity still works no matter what, though I would have loved to see some numbers applied to the problems. The symbolic manipulation is great, but I got lost after some time. The idea of using a Lorentz transformation seemed to come out of nowhere, but I assume that this was covered in a previous video (but I must judge this as a standalone entry). The length contraction of the train as perceived by the tunnel was not discussed after the graphing which would have cleared one more confusing bit of the paradox. As well as giving a more concrete example, using numbers would slow down the pacing which should make it easier to understand. Fun video with a very animated voice, and I would love to see more about relativity from the channel in the future.
Pretty nice piece. The motivation is clear, and you hit the headline in a straightforward enough way that the memorability is good too. These problems get pretty thorny which does hurt the clarity, however I think this has more to do with your choice of difficult problems, rather than a deficiency in your explanations. One suggestion would be to switch reference frames more often on the spacetime diagrams, which you do in the last problem but not the prior ones. Another would be that your conclusion feels anti-climactic, a recap of the overall message would have been nice at the end.
The paradoxes are a great introduction to special relativity. It’s a bit difficult for me to judge how easy it is to follow your explanations and animations since I’m a physicist myself, but at a few times I felt like a non-physicists might be a bit overwhelmed. Also, I think it would have been nice to connect Lorentz invariance more. Personally, I feel like that this ties it all together (in my head, at least). Nonetheless, I think you presented a difficult topic in a graspable and mathematically precise way, which I really appreciate.
