Summer of Math Exposition

I don’t think I completely agree with the claim in this video, but it was well-argued in a clear, persuasive, and engaging manner.

No mathematical content.

This felt more like a rant than an educational video

I liked where this was going at the start of the video, and I think the analogy with sheet music works very well to illustrate the point that mathematics is not about the symbols but about what the symbols mean. Unfortunately, when it came to what mathematics actually are, I don’t subscribe to the idea that mathematics are an art that is “supposed to be enjoyed”. As bad as the dictionary definition was, I think mentioning that it was about about numbers and measurements seemed more relevant to describe the thing than the injunction of how you’re supposed to feel about it…

The video is somewhat meta, but the idea isn’t novel nor is it well executed. The graphics add little to the story and I think the message could be conveyed much faster. It felt more like a rant than an explainer.
