Motivation:
Pros:
I was very quickly able to latch onto what was going on in the first minute or less of the video, and it’s certainly unique and considering it’s a unique topic, I’d say it was explained what the goal of the video is well, especially since you explained how the shape version of the numbers worked immediately, and said how we’d be looking into comp sci, multisets, and probability
Cons:
I think that the ideas to do with LCM and HCF should’ve also been presented at the start of the video, as I found that after watching the whole video through then going back to the start, I was able to understand what the shapes meant in a much clearer manner, having seen the ideas before. I think it was just a little fast paced, and that’ll probably something I mention a few times, but I may just be a bit slow, so take of that what you will :thumbsup:
Clarity:
Pros:
The content was explained very well, and most things were explained that are deemed unfamiliar, ie. multisets, (Which surprisingly I have come across!), heavily on set theory which was nice, and so on. I understood the main concepts of the video, even when I’m not doing comp sci, so I’m really pleased about that.
Cons:
I think a short introduction to boolean logic would’ve been nice, just explaining what we mean when we say boolean. personally I don’t do computer science, but I can do a bit of manim coding and I am sort of familiar with what boolean logic is, however I would’ve liked to see a 30 second or so intro to what it is, but I’m getting from the video that you take comp sci and are pretty well equipped with that, so I’m guessing you just assumed the people who would watch are also computer scientists, which is completely fine.
Novelty:
Pros:
I did like the drawing, as it gives the video a little more life, and whilst the idea is used quite a bit, it makes the video that little bit more unique, and so I appreciated that. Obviously with the chosen topic, you have the ability to draw your shapes as numbers, which is great. In terms of the actual topic, what you’ve chosen to do combines quite a few different fields and gives a creative and original output, and that’s probably what I like most about this video.
Cons:
I am also cuplrit to this with my own entry, but the manim with voiceover is obviously something a lot of people have done, but it is essentially the go-to formula for a good video, so I cannot blame you.
Memorability:
Pros:
Just the concept of expressing numbers as shapes like that will make it easier to remember, and it’ll actually be useful to me, as visualising HCF and LCM as superimposing shapes and looking at the brightest regions like you explained will help me remember the different formulas for them both, as god knows how many times I’ve confused the two.
Cons:
The only con I can really think of is to speak with a bit more upbeat tone and enthusiasm but I wasn’t consciously thinking about that during the video and it didn’t negatively affect it
Extra thoughts / Choreography:
Pros:
I think the structure was almost perfect, as you asked one question which led into the next, and practically took the same stance as someone who is watching the video, thinking about what they would be asking next.
Cons:
The mic quality wasn’t great, but I know getting a good mic can be difficult and expensive, so I completely understand that. I think it may be worth slowing down some of the sections and taking a bit more time to make sure the viewer properly understands the concept you’re explaining. I feel like I need to watch it a couple of times to fully grasp the ideas, but honestly I’d be more than happy to re-watch this video.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, a superb video, and the animations, content, and all are great. Obviously, there’s always room for improvement, with sound quality, and a few minor changes, but I really enjoyed watching this. Well done!
You draw some interesting parallels between a whole bunch of fields of math. It’s a bit hard to tell when you jump from one topic to the next, since the space between sentences doesn’t change (a small pause helps signal the transition). The tone feels a little antagonistic, too.
Very interesting video with the combination of number theory, set theory, geometry and a bit of computer science. It was really interesting to see all these concepts come together. However there were some shortcomings. The pace was a bit too fast, maybe a transition screen from different concepts could have helped tbe viewer digest the concepts a bit, other than that really great!
Non content related critics: the audio was was to quiet.
The fact that a multiset is necessarily required when adding sets it not adequately explained, unless it’s simply an arbitrary definition, but even such is not clearly given.
This video is not bad, but it would have really helped to have some kind of introduction that explained why we are exploring this particular topic. Another issue I have with this video is that it moves a little too fast. Remember, this is the first time the viewer is seeing this video and hearing the narration. If it moves too fast and there is no time to think, then the likelihood is that little learning will take place. Unfortunately, this is the case with this video. I had a very difficult time figuring out what is going on with this video and what I am supposed to be learning. It’s really unfortunate in this case because it seems like some interesting things are being discussed; however, I cannot be sure.
