How much of the London Underground can we travel through without retracing our steps?

Audience:

This is a short piece directed toward middle-school / lower secondary school on graph theory specifically Eulerian circuits and paths. I wanted to highlight the artistic side of maths whilst also demonsating practicle applications in real life.

Even though I believe this topic isn’t usually in exams for secondary schools, it does make maths feel less intimidating, and applicable to any pattern in the real world. I do hope that it inspires students to apply maths to random real-world things, and to play around with it.

This article on graph theory would benefit from more diagrams. The actual map of the london underground is not shown. It is not clear why there is a 2 way path on the map when the question was initially about 1 way paths.

This was an enjoyable and well-written entry. The motivation was well presented and the visualisations made it clear. However my main gripe is that the specific question “How much of the London Underground” was not answered, since you only showed one line at a time. I expected you to find the path across the whole underground that would cover the most stops!
