Summer of Math Exposition

An interesting, though brief, article on the history of approximations of pi. The article is very accessible to the chosen audience and conveys to the reader the impact of Liu Hui’s estimate. While estimates made by other civilisations are mentioned, they all feel neglected compared to Liu Hui’s. There is a novelty in what the article does but really there is very little mathematics actually done, the results are simply stated. The question at the outset is also not really answered, and realistically 22/7 is not a universally synonymous approximation as the introduction states.

The article is pretty short and doesn’t include any specific details about the methods that ancient mathematicians develop (Archimedes double the number of of sides, but how does that specifically help him compute pi?). After reading, I did not grasp the main point of the paragraph. However, I saw your enthusiasm in Math expressed through the paragraph and the footnote. Keep up that passion!

It’s fun! I really like getting deeper on simple concepts that we take for granted that could have something really interesting behind But besides a fun article it’s not the type of content I’m looking for specifically on the exposition (not that is bad on ANY mean of the word of course)
