A Brief Exploration of Mathematics

Audience:

The following article/website is mostly for high school students, though I have kept it very simple. So maybe anyone with enough knowledge of algebra and arithmetic can probably understand this. I wrote this article because this is the way I wanted to be taught mathematics in high school. But unfortunately, I didn't. I request the readers to read the entire article and not judge it based on one particular section. Though this article is still in development, there's a lot that I'm gonna add and probably change. But in its current form, it's enough to give the readers a fair judgment of this article. It is advised to be read on a laptop.

This article demands a significant amount of effort from the reader and is very long; I read the parts on progressions, series, Pascal’s triangle, and quadratic equations. I think just one part (e.g. the part on series) would have been sufficient for a SoME submission. However, the writer’s passion for maths was highly compelling all the way through the article, enough to make it memorable and motivating to me. Furthermore, links were consistently provided to external sources where the reader might not be familiar with the subject matter, and providing some insight into the history of the maths being discussed was a pleasant extra. While the subject matter is not necessarily original, the writer has selected interesting pieces of maths such that the overall text felt coherent and cohesive. I also enjoyed the writer’s style: they kept the flow of the text very well, ensuring the mathematical symbols did not feel out of place. A few grammatical errors detracted slightly from the experience, mainly lack of capitalisation (‘I’ not ‘i’ for the first person pronoun), though these were not severe. Overall, an engaging and inspiring read, especially with the respect to the expression of the writer’s interest in the subject.

Nice overview of key highschool mathematics, including exercises. Even though I like the Baldurs Gate II vibes of the website, I find it hard to focus on the text, since it just moves over ye olde background page. :) Other than that I find it very helpful, also the part on trigonometry has some nice overview tables. The font of the main website was at first a little overwhelming but was quite nice after a while reading it this way, which I found surprising.
