Summer of Math Exposition

This is a typical description of the derivation of the wave equation as described in most textbooks. The presentation is very standard, the narrator has a good voice and is very clear, he obviously has a good understanding of the topic. This video could benefit greatly from more animation so we could actually see the waves in the wave equation. Otherwise it is just the same as a textbook. Although there is a definite problem with youtube maths videos having too many “cool visuals” and not enough maths, this video h the opposite problem. There are many great examples in real life and in animation of the wave equation, but this video does not feature any.

This is a really creative video and talks about a really interesting topic regarding music and math. I really like the approach and the hornist of the video. Clearly it was a long video, but I thought it was very nice done. It was well organized and well illustrated. Great work

There is clearly a lot of deep physics and mathematics for high school students in this video. It’s novel for students to get a deep dive into a topic that is not usually covered in the standard curriculum. However, even for high-achieving high school students in AP Physics C (in the US, IDK about curriculum in other countries), the clarity of the math could be a pain point. While the math is not too hard to follow (for a math major), the physical representation of the math is lacking for me. For high school students who might not have a mastery of topics like derivatives it could feel like being dragged through a long and tedious derivation without a clear end in sight. The initial ten minutes of the video were very clear, the use of a picture helped immensely. Perhaps condensing the long derivation in the middle and putting the discussion of harmonics more in the forefront of the video could be a way to add more clarity to the topic.

I skipped some parts, a 50-minute video is too long for students. Break it up into multiple lessons, because not everyone can maintain such a long attention span. The initial part is very similar to a regular lecture and doesn’t offer much more than what could be done in class with a blackboard. It’s a clear explanation, but again, not different from a clear lesson taught in the classroom. When getting into the specifics of string equations, the topic risks going beyond the reach of high school students. This video, with so many formulas and steps, could be very useful for university students!
