The motivation and the cool demonstration are not mentioned until the last 60 seconds of the video. By that point you already lost me as we went to talk from resonance to light, to waves in a seemingly unconnected manner. There’s a lot of math and graphs, that are not introduced to the audience. Additionally, it would be clear to establish which mathematical concept is being demonstrated. Originally, I thought this had to do with converging series, but by the end of the video I was no longer sure which math concept was at the core of this video. The camera work and the sound demonstrations were great, but they felt too short. You can also work on making smoother transitions. Overall, this feels more like a physics/engineering showcase than a novel explanation of a math concept.
The motivation is clear from the beginning, that’s great. I also like that the assumptions and required knowledge are given before starting; however, many formulas that weren’t in the required knowledge were shown troughtout the video, and aren’t clearly or well explained to the viewer. Finally, some long pauses and a little lack of flow might make the video not as memorable for viewers. Other than that, it is an overal job well done!
I like the style and design of this video. It has a nice creativity to it. The topic is quite above my understanding. But the introduction was engaging about thinking about transparency of one and then 2 filters. Great opening. The cliff hanger at the end was a good finish!
The videos of the lasers were totally awesome.
My advice is to build the viewer’s intuition of the topic step by step. It was hard to visualise and understand the concepts at times.
For example, in the first minute of the video I believe it could be hard for a new student to follow that you get half being reflected back from the first mirror times half of that going through the second (to get a quarter). Try to take the viewers with you.
Another example was the coherence segment - some explanation of the graphs, and visualisation of why interference disappears, would have been really valuable.
On the other hand, the animation of the air/metaglass scene was effective - more in that style would be great in the future!
There are some akward pauses in the audio but the overall pacing was appropriate to the level of complexity.
The effect you’re describing is really interesting, and lasers are always cool. There are just some issues with pacing. There are a lot of long, silent sections with only a static image on screen, and there are a few places where equations are shown too quickly to be understood.
The approach of this video is not suitable for high-school students, not so much because of the content, but because of the presentation style. Too technical.
Topic is interesting, the animations are very clear. The sections of images/text but no audio make it likely for viewers to “feel alone” and stop watching. Also, the transitions take way too long. Watch out for these dead times, the attention span these days is very limited and a valuable resource so I would recommend avoiding long pauses and even transitions, unless really necessary. The live demo with the laser is fantastic, something you don’t see much on YouTube.
