I really liked the collaborative aspect of this video and how you try and bring new people in to thinking about mathematics without the fear that’s usually associated with them. Great job to Hannah especially for finding the clever simplifying argument. Here are some suggestions for improving the exposition:
- Don’t be scared to give the result at the beginning! It’s really engaging to see that the product is equal to pi/2 and then discover why. It will also help students understand why you are suddenly using a circle, instead of having to rely on “just wait for it”.
- Similarly, you should draw more attention to the result when you finally do prove it. It’s spectacular enough that it deserves a bit of recognition!
- When talking about a complicated figure or setup, try to avoid general words like “this term” or “the number”, and be specific, like “the Friar’s position”
- Give examples first. For the Nurse’s and Friar’s lemma it would have been nice to have the result clearly stated and give some examples (which you do later) before proving the result, otherwise it’s very easy to get lost.
Otherwise great job, and the reflections at the end were very sweet :)
