A good, straightforward, informative video. No frills, no fuss. Good job!

This video is about as dry as the dry wall that takes up 1/3 of the screen, but it’s equally effective. Other, more flashy videos that I’ve seen most often have more of a wow-effect. Despite that (or maybe because of it) I’ve had more brain power to focus on the actual calculations. Simple examples, but effective nonetheless.

The video is very clear, despite not being anything novel, visually outstanding or really memorable. Of course, comparing a white-board style video to perfectly animated and choreographed videos makes it look less than what it actually is. But this is the perfect video for a student who needs answers, solutions and examples quickly and for a specific and common math problem.

The video simply explains the mechanics and properties of logarithms, without spending enough time on the intuition on how these formulas came to be.

As a high school student I have learned these rules already but did use a video online similar to this one to do so. For a better time watching I think the parts where you don’t talk could be skipped through faster as reading is faster then writing. This time make you zone out and drift off to other thoughts quicker. The examples were good as well. I bit more motivation and passion would also make watching more interesting.

I’m sorry, but this lesson is very close to a frontal standard lesson about logarithms. It is clear and complete, but the purpose of SoME4 is different. Find something originally useful for students, write down some chart for memorizing topics… use colors when possible. Don’t give up.

I think it’s important when teaching to make it feel like you could’ve discovered it yourself. Instead of just stating rules and facts to solve seemingly arbitrary problems, it’d be a better idea to try to motivate the concept of logarithms with the compound interest example at the start and discover the rules along the way. That way, there’s a motivation for the learner to care about logarithms.

Also, introducing the natural logarithm and e wasn’t necessary; all the problems could’ve just been log base 10 instead of natural logarithms to reduce complexity.
