Understanding the Circumcenter

Audience:

In this self-guided slideshow, I’ll explain how to intuitively understand the circumcenter of a triangle, and in the process help build mathematical inquiry skills that you can use for practically any problem.

Suitable for middle and high school students who are familiar with basic geometry concepts, ideally currently taking ‘Geometry’.

The primary submission is the Google Slide, but I have included a Powerpoint and a PDF as alternatives.

Great article, the end where you explain how SA = SB by telling the reader that they are by definition equal because of point of intersection of perpendicular bisectors was a great “aha” moment. The explanation of the bisectors themselves was also great.

This was a wonderful explanation of circumcenters. I liked how it starts with a scenario that is perhaps too common (‘We were more or less taught this definition…but we never asked ourselves why’) and promises to explain the deeper reasoning behind such definitions. And the slides make good on that promise!

I found the conversational tone to be helpful, it felt like I was being led on an exploration of the geometrical world. The leading questions helped making the definition feel closer to discovery.

I also liked how this ends with an exercise for the reader to test their understanding of the mathematical process on.

Quite good, however the topic kept equal to the original dimension, I would like to see it in the 4th dimension. Nonetheless it is a solid entry, that didn’t bore with over staying its welcome. Nice!

P.S. There are fractional dimensions derived from fractals as well. Does the concept work there as well?

I think it could be improved by placing more emphasis on the fact that the three perp bisectors “magically meet” - would be a nice draw.
