Things you didn't know about Eigenvalues (maybe) #SoMEpi

This video explores methods to find eigenvalues and quick facts and shortcuts that make calculating eigenvalues easier. It is intended for anyone who knows the basics of linear algebra and would like to learn more facts about eigentheory. The purpose of the video is to be a one-stop-shop for anyone studying eigenvalues who is wanting to gain intuition for these methods or practice finding eigenvalues. Additionally, it offers a good review on eigenvalues for an upcoming test or just to refresh one's mind.

It is probably a set of useful facts/tricks for students, but I would have expected depper motivation / understanding of the concept itself.

Your video is clear and the animations are nice. You voice is clear and supports well your video. Be careful not to take too many shortcuts, a matrix is not a sum of vectors, some of your "proofs" are not proofs, eigenvalues are not necessarly integers, so testing with the divisors of the determinant is ok but cannot suffise in the general case. You didn't give a clear definition of what is an eigenvalue and an eigenvector, so people who haven't heard about this topic could be lost at the very begining of your video. Keep up with your work !

This was really good - I liked the little video mascot! Didn't know any of the author's last 3 rules, so it was fun to learn something new! Video was very fast-paced, but the author summarised everything nicely at the end. Enjoyed it!

While I feel the video lacks a “hook” that makes it appealing to someone not currently in a class, I really feel this is a great resource for someone in a linear algebra class. It is quick to the point and the well animated problems help with understanding. Personally the speech is a little too fast for me, so sometimes I found it easy to get lost between all the text and the speaking voice. Overall I think it’s a great resource for linear algebra students.

Very cool explanation! Overall very high quality and interesting subject matter 😊 My only tip would be to go a little slower on the equation explanations. For me at least, it can be pretty hard to follow the equations changing so fast on screen. I am also less knowledgeable about this than maybe your desired audience is, so keep that in mind. Keep it up!

its a solid video explaining the concept but there isnt anything in the video i havent seen in a video or uni lecture and the explaning it self is solid but i feel it falls a bit short of truly hammering in the concept of the eigens, but overall a good explainer for someone who is studying that stuff or wanting to remember it but it dosent go into the concepts behind it

Nice in scope, good animations, explained topics well. Good job

The facts are all interesting and useful. But they all kind of come out of nowhere. It might make more sense to lead into each with the example, then describe the general rule and why it makes sense.

A nice review, but at 3:26 beta should be positive 1+ sq rt(2) approx. 2.414…

Looks like a handy little summary, in its specialised niche. If I was to sum it up in one word, Neat! You have a nice clear voice and good delivery. (You sound a lot like Vi Hart) If you were going to do a more mathematically demanding video, I'd suggest talking a little bit slower, but for a quick summary of something the viewer already knows (e.g. revision for a test) this was good.

Some cool graphics to illustrate the concepts. If I was to suggest any changes to improve this, it would be to slow down, especially at the start where you show the diagonalisation - it would help if you briefly say what diagonalisation is because it appears again in the video.

Great but lose intuition for later part of facts...
