I think the video was a bit lacking in all four of the metrics mentioned in the guidelines. I will point out one specific issue: Even though this is a history video, I believe that it could have been made better if there was some attempt at also teaching some (very rudimentary) science/math through it. For example, some short calculation (such as integrating the probability function to verify that it is one) which would keep the viewer more engaged and to give a flavour of why the problem is hard.
I had a lot of fun watching this! I literally burst out laughing at, “Paul, hun, that’s not how any of this works” and the “psst! They actually found anti-matter.” I like that it was a mix of tidbits of physics history along with explanations of the equations and how/why they came along. Really liked the chart at the end and feel like you might have introduced it sooner to help keep us oriented or built it out bit by bit throughout the video. The equations themselves, well I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to pick them out of a lineup but even so I think you did a good job describing what each one did, even though I didn’t know what every individual symbol meant, and how they evolved from one to the other.
Thanks for making this video and congratulations and good luck with your research!
The focus on the presenter made it harder to take in the concepts introduced, and the video cuts contributed to the feeling a bit too. However this format in shorter pieces might be a great way to connect with younger students who prefer younger social media. The key elements that link periods could have been represented and kept around visually for a while during each chapter. The most helpful concept in this video is that building the historical intuition for those equations (why we did what we did in the past, what questions arose) is a truly wonderful way to invite interest of many curious students. I hope the presenter continues to make content in the future!
