I think that this was a great insight into a technicality that is very rarely discussed in most physics courses, even at a college level. Well done!

This is a standard discussion in a calculus-based mechanics course, though the animations could help a bit compared to static diagrams in a textbook.

The introduction was too dramatic, with the music students might find it cheesy rather than compelling or even funny. Also, some of the images/formulas were blurry, perhaps find higher resolution images. Also, this might not be possible, but it would be good to have an example where a student could intuit themselves that force would be changing (even if acceleration were 0), because the big reveal that force is negative 12 was a little less impactful because I didn’t really know what that meant in terms of the boat situation. Sure it’s experiencing a negative force, but was there any way that I could have intuited that? BUT I do think that this is at an appropriate level for seniors in high school, and would probably be very helpful for them, especially if they had blindly memorized f = ma. Your explanations were clear, and I think they would have been able to follow each step you took, so great job!

Definitely one of my favorites so far! The premise was intriguing, the result was new to me, I had an “aha” moment, the visuals are helpful, and the video feels well put together. (Audio could be a smidge better, but it gives the video a “homemade with love” kind of feel, which isn’t bad.)

I had to rewatch the very beginning (from 1:14) since I don’t know a lot about Physics, but then I was able to follow your argument without too much trouble. The lightbulb moment and main takeaway for me was at 5:00 - “aah, there’s two parts to it, but one of them is usually 0, and I remember that v’ is a, so that’s where the formula comes from!”

It’s a tall order to explain the basics of calculus and the whole “imagine tiny nudges” thing in about one minute, so maybe the explanation would have been better off aimed at people who already know calculus. Didn’t hinder my enjoyment though. Nice job!

It may be a decent and fun excursion for high-school students to try to follow this (or attempt to solve this scenario by themselves), but has a lot of places in which it can improve.

A twist on classical high-school mechanics: what if the mass is changing?

The video is to the point: it does not try to explain too much, so I think it is quite understandable.

Only small complaint: the fact that force = derivative of momentum is not justified in any way, intuitive or otherwise.

I really liked the questioning of such a seemingly known term and showing that it isn’t always true. The part with the rectangle seemed a bit arbitrary and I couldn’t intuitively understand why your aloud to do that and the simplifying was done a bit quick and could have used a better visualization of what was being done at each step. Otherwise well done and a good enjoyable short watch

Nice explanation of force as being a change in momentum, especially using the area of the colored rectangles. And showing the dm and dv as the orange square is really great! Overall, great use of graphics to make an important point! Well done!
