This seems like a really cool project. The process is clearly explained, complete with experiments and wrong turns, the math all makes sense, and the end result looks and sounds great. Well done.
I love the theme, especially the musical tones at the end. I really liked your process of walking through the problem, first random selected points, then a distance condition, etc. (I was a little confused at why you were not directly just able to use the distant condition?) Also slightly confused at why certain graphs were better or worse for the musical tone, like when you said a bit too triangular I was slightly confused. Overall, I thought it was a really interesting video, I just think a little bit more mathematical explanation and insight would level the video up further.

I felt like I was really drawn in by the constellation music introduction, I wanted to know what the idea was here. But then you spent a very long time talking about just the making of the constellations. Finally it turned out that there wasn’t anything about the musical portion that was very mathematically sophisticated. This is a nice introduction to some basic concepts in random processes and graph theory, but the advertised musical aspect fell kind of short for me.
Excellent video, I liked how you touched upon so many different algorithms, and seemed to let the viewer figure out which ones are useful or not. Even outside of the musical result, I think the process of walking through the problem solving process would be immensely useful to various demographics. Excellent animations and visual design as well. If this is “missing something”, I think it’d be a bit more relevance and takeaway message to a standard viewer, outside of the beautiful music; ie, showing an audience member that this type of procedural generation, or something similar, is something very achievable.
I loved the discovery process, and that instead of starting with the best version, you started with the more natural first attempt and then improved it based on observations of the outcome. High-quality teaching!
Nor clear AT ALL what’s the point of this video ? Not unpleasant to watch and hear (nevertheless it could be far more rapid), but that’s a description of some self decided homework rather than a lesson
At the start, I missed a motivation WHY a uniform distribution of stars is desirable or better than actual random.
I loved this video. It’s nice to see a step by step procedural line of thought to arrive at a thing like constellations. The soundtrack of this video is phenomenal. It really ties the animations and explanations together. I would have loved to see some more refinement of the constellations. I feel the explanations in the beginning take a bit to long leaving not enough room for more depth later on. I’m also wondering if there would be more possible with using chords and different intervals. For now the size and shape of the constellations are still disconnected from the sounds they actually produce.
Either way, this one gets a like. 6.5
Interesting topics, but the ultimate goal (generating music from constellations) doesn’t seem a very interesting application.
