Understanding the Unit Circle

In this presentation (note: please put the presentation in slideshow mode), I'll cover a few key concepts behind the Unit Circle. Then, we'll create our own Unit Circle, and use it to identify sin, cos, tan, csc, sec, and cot of given angles on the circle. I'll give a step-by-step breakdown on how to build the Unit Circle, as you watch it come to fruition. I've added voiceovers to the presentation to provide some guidance and clarity so viewers can better understand the concepts I'll be explaining. By the end of the presentation, you will understand the concepts behind the Unit Circle, and be able to create one on your own by using the steps in this guide. The Unit Circle is a pertinent mathematical concept, and understanding in today will streamline your learning experience tomorrow.

It’s not clear who the target audience for this project is.

It’s a google slide, so my first thought is for this to be used as part of a presentation in a classroom, but the slides are very information-dense and busy, which are often intimidating to students. Most presentation slides are much sparser for this reason.

If it’s meant as a standalone article that a student can read, then the google slides format is a bit strange. Again, the slides are quite dense and some of them are hard to parse. All of the information is quite well-presented and relevant, but I think it’s fighting against its own format.

The motivation for this entry was not so clear to me. I had thought that it would reveal some insight into how the unit circle explains what sin and cos are, but in the end it was more about the symmetries between matching triangles around the circle.

Overall I thought there were way too many words in the presentation, and the narrative arc did not really conclude with the a-ha moment that I usually associate with a memorable explainer. In general the whole presentation was quite cluttered with the bright colours not helping with that either.

In general I like the idea of revealing symmetries for sin/cos/tan/sec/cot… but I think the presentation was unclear.
